Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia is extremely rich with history. It was first settled in 1605 as Port-Royal by the Frenchmen Samuel de Champlain and Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Monts. The original settlement was on the opposite side of the Annapolis Basin from where Annapolis Royal is now.

With the help of the Mi'kmaq they created a log fortification called a Habitation which is now the location of a National Historic Site. Port-Royal switched hands between the British and the French a number of times and was destroyed by the British in 1613 and moved to its present day location. In 1710 the British once again took control, this time for good. They renamed Port-Royal to Annapolis Royal in honour of Queen Anne; this is also where the Annapolis Basin and our Annapolis Valley received their names.

With the beautiful heritage buildings and the friendly valley environment present day Annapolis Royal is a great tourist destination, but is also a wonderful place to call home.
