Cornwallis Nova Scotia

Cornwallis was until 1994 a military base called CFB Cornwallis. Now closed, the former base and surrounding area is known as Cornwallis Park and is used for civilian purposes. There is still a somewhat military presence in the area with the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre which is a non-profit, independent organization which was setup in the same year the base closed.

Also making their home in Cornwallis is the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre which is now one of the top meeting facilities in Nova Scotia. They have taken over a number of the previously military buildings and use them to host many different conferences and events.

Convergys, which is a worldwide provider of customer contact centres, has a large operation in Cornwallis which is one of the region's largest employers.

6905--Visited the park and museum, thought more would be preserved for the soldeirs who trained their and was surprised to see there wasn't a grade list from military archieves of those who graduated there. Also bought the book and in it is a story of the "great train trip" and "it only happened once". Will maybe coast to coast, but when my father got posted from Uplands Ontario to Cold Lake Alberta,in 1962, we are (all still living except parents) a family of eight(8) siplings and they held up the train to add a car because our family was so big. Does that not count because he wasn't an officer. Have grad picture and names on back I will send once I get back to Alberta. Later

Had the opportunity to visit the base in the summer of 2010 after 31 years. Moving; looking at the barracks, parade grounds and the maintenance buildings. Hope the new tenants maintain this site. Many of us young people started our service for this country here with life learnings, experiences and friendships. Thank you DND
